Wedding Photography During the Cooler Months

Traditionally, summer weddings involve photos taken outdoors, and feature the bounty of nature – from blossoming flowers to grassy parks and everything in between. However, fall and winter weddings can be just as beautiful as traditional summer weddings, and can also offer stunning landscapes for wedding photography. Caprice Design & Decor works with an extensive list of photographers and videographers that can help you make the most of your wedding day weather, whatever it brings!

Autumnal Beauty

Autumn is renowned for the magical transformation it brings about. Trees change from fertile green to dazzling shades of red, orange and yellow. Skies take on a dramatic edge as clouds work their way across the horizon, and sunsets set the landscape aglow with their early afternoon slanting rays. Autumn is truly one of the most spectacular times to take advantage of natural beauty in your wedding photos. A few things to keep in mind, however, as autumnal weather can be unpredictable:

  • Choose an indoor location in addition to an outdoor location to take photos – this will be complimentary to your photos, as well as provide a backup plan should there be sudden weather changes to account for.
  • Bring some fun autumnal props to incorporate into your wedding photos! If the ground is a bit boggy, why not try some fun rain boots juxtaposed against a beautiful gown or an elegant suit? Or perhaps an interesting umbrella to add some lighthearted humor to your wedding pictures?
  • Have a blanket or a shawl handy and give it to someone who will be close at hand. A bridesmaid can be put in charge of handing the bride a blanket in between shots to warm up if the weather is chilly.

Winter Wonderland

Winter weddings can be truly spectacular. The dynamic, dramatic displays of black and white beautifully mirror traditional attire worn by the bride and groom. Accented by the remaining winter greenery and festive outdoor holiday decorations, winter landscapes take on a magical feel. The holiday season is an ideal time to take advantage of both indoor and outdoor wedding photography! Here are a few helpful tips to bear in mind as you prepare for your frosty, festive wedding photos:

  • Again, it makes sense to choose an indoor and outdoor location for your wedding photos – this will give you a chance to take photos in different types of environments, as well as avoiding spending too long outside when the weather gets cold.
  • Get the bride a coat! Alternatively, a shawl or a shrug. The most traditional option for outdoor wedding photos in the winter is a white fur shrug worn over the wedding dress. However, the option of colours and styles of beautiful warming winter garments is endless. Perhaps a complimentary coloured shrug to accent the bouquet colours or the groom’s tie?
  • Don’t be afraid of a few fallen leaves! Although parks and natural spaces tend to be more appealing in the summer, they can look equally stunning during the winter months with the help of a skilled photographer. Bare branches reaching up towards the sky don’t have to look spooky – they can add graphic elegance to your wedding photos and a truly unique look!
